Val Telberg Russian, 1910-1995

Overview

Born in Moscow, Telberg was educated in England, France, Japan, and the United States and earned a degree in chemistry from Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio, in 1932.

He was self-taught as a painter until attending painting and cinematography classes at the Art Students League in New York in 1942.

Moving to Florida, he supported himself by photographing nightclub patrons and operating a tourist photo concession, but he began a career as a photographer in earnest when he returned to New York in 1944.

In 1968 he moved to Sag Harbod, New York, where, in addition to photomontage, he began producing multimedia artworks and nonobjective sculpture.
