Gaston Paris French, 1905-1964

Overview

As a freelance photographer, Gaston Paris offered “turnkey” features—both texts and photographs—to magazine editorial teams. Starting in 1932, his illustrated articles on cinema appeared in Paris Magazine, and he gradually shifted toward lighter subjects, such as interviews with painters’ models. In 1933, he became a regular contributor to La Rampe, where he published photo series featuring painters, illustrators, and members of the press. In 1936, he co-founded the group Le Rectangle, which promoted a modern aesthetic similar to his own and was also closely aligned with the Surrealist movement.
