Thierry Balanger French, b. 1961
A trained photographer, Thierry Balanger began his career in the press in Poitiers, then became a freelance photographer in the performing arts, and supervised workshops for fifteen years.
Collaborating with participants and models, his first body experiments became a field of collective exploration, including the creation of giant photograms.
Initiated in 1994, his Vanités series explores the subject of bodies and plants through ancient photographic processes (photogram, chemigram, solarization, inversion...), and paths between positive and negative.
The imprint, omnipresent in his work, is thought as a tactile and intimate portrait, a «skin-image».
Thierry Balanger’s work has been the subject of exhibitions in Reims, Rennes, Poitiers and Paris.
