Louis Faurer Américain, 1916-2001
Après avoir obtenu son diplôme à Philadelphie en 1934, Louis Faurer a passé quelques étés comme caricaturiste dans le New Jersey. Passionné par la typographie, il étudie à la School of Commercial Art and Lettering de Philadelphie en 1937 et achète son premier appareil photo la même année.
À la fin des années 1940, Faurer et plusieurs de ses confrères de Philadelphie ouvrent des studios à New York. Très vite, il se tourne vers la photographie de mode. En 1947, il rejoint l’équipe du Junior Bazaar (qui sera plus tard intégré au Harper’s Bazaar). Faurer était un membre clé de la New York School of street photographers. Au cours des années 1950, délaisse sa pratique personnelle pour ses commandes professionnelles.
Il est mort en 2001 à New York.
